Ross Romano is a distinguished legal professional with a multifaceted career spanning law and public service. A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ross earned his Bachelor of Arts in Law and Justice from Algoma University and his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2005.
Ross’s legal career commenced in civil litigation, followed by roles as Staff Duty Counsel with Legal Aid Ontario, Assistant Crown Attorney, and Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Sault Ste. Marie. He later entered private practice, focusing on civil and criminal litigation.
In 2017, Ross was elected as the MPP for Sault Ste. Marie. During his tenure, he held several key positions, including Minister of Colleges and Universities, where he spearheaded initiatives like Intellectual Property Ontario and the expansion of virtual learning. As Minister of Government and Consumer Services, he led the modernization of the Ontario Business Registry, procurement through Supply Ontario, and made critical changes to the benefit of the Ontario Real Estate Association. His final role in public office was as Chief Government Whip.
Ross’s contributions have been recognized with several honours, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from Algoma University in 2024 and the King Charles III Coronation Medal. He has also been appointed as King’s Counsel, reflecting his exceptional merit and contribution to the legal profession.
Fluent in English and Italian, with intermediate proficiency in French and basic knowledge of Ojibway, Ross is committed to serving a diverse clientele. His approach to legal practice is characterized by strategic thinking, effective communication, and a results-driven mindset.
Active in the community, Ross serves on the board of the Sault Youth Soccer Club and coaches multiple youth soccer teams. His deep roots in Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario guide his dedication to delivering high-quality legal services tailored to the unique needs of the region.
